Born on February 10, 1972 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Danny “Doo” Bowling and the late Audrey Bolen Bowling.
Sandy was a 1990 graduate of Amherst High School and graduated from the Lynchburg School of Nursing. Sandy was employed with Centra Health as an RN. She had an infectious smile and the best laugh you ever heard. She loved the beach, putting her toes in the sand, taking long slow rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway, listening to 80’s hairbands, including her favorites Def Leopard and AC/DC. One of her favorite pastimes was watching the Cleveland Indians baseball games; however, her great joy was spending time with family and friends, which always included lots of laughter and giggles.
In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her sister, Karen Bowling; grandparents, Ora and Myrtle Bowling and Linza and Catherine Bolen; aunts, Jeanie Buchanan and Ruth Bowling Smith; and cousin, Junior Buchanan.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Daniel Barkyoumb; children, Chance Barkyoumb and Destiny Barkyoumb; siblings, David Bowling and wife Jennifer and Cathy Bowling; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Linda Duska at UVA Cancer Center, Dr. John Plankeel at Lynchburg Centra Health and Hospice along with all the nurses and staff at UVA Cancer Center, Centra Health and Hospice, and Fairmont Crossing Health for their wonderful care and support during Sandy’s illness.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Monroe, with Pastor Glynn Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider memorial contributions to the UVA Cancer Center, 1222 Jefferson Park Avenue #6171, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
