Growing up, Selby and I were very close-only 10 months apart. Therefore, we shared common interests– friends and music, plus I got to call her “old” for 10 months. You could bet she’d always call me on my birthday to rub this in!
Being close when we were young, we did many things together, even getting in trouble! Somehow when that happened, our stories always differed. Naturally, I blamed her and she blamed me. Either way, we both ended up with red bottoms.
One of those stories: when we were about 8, we set the yard on fire! I stole a bunch of matches from the kitchen drawer and hid them in a boxwood bush beside the house.  After we played for a while, I decided to show Selby the bountiful treasure I stole.  
We took one book of matches to a big pile of leaves, grass and other debris piled in the corner of three adjoining yards. Selby struck the first match, so I followed her lead (this is where the story differs, I started the fire and she had nothing to do with it). With short attention spans, we lost interest and walked away. Shortly after this, Mr. Jennings was knocking on our door. He asked dad about the fire, as it had burned halfway across his backyard, and there was no one around. We watched through the door as the neighbors worked frantically to put out the fire.
After all the commotion and excitement was over, we were interrogated by our parents and neighbors. THE TRUTH WAS OUT - the fire was started by us. After being questioned, I confessed that I had taken the matches, so I reluctantly presented the wonderful stash to my dad. He took my treasure!
Needless to say, we both had red hind ends; almost so red, that if we had sat down, we would have caught the chair on fire! Mom and Dad said that after the incident, if they asked us to bring them a match, we were scared to touch them.  
No matter how we got each other in trouble, we still remained close.

To a very loving sister, friend and companion - you will be missed.
Following Selby in school, on the first day of class I heard, “Are you Selby’s brother,” I said, “yes.”   The teachers would always reply, “Oh how wonderful!”  About a week later I would hear, “are you sure you’re Selby’s brother?”  
Selby was always well behaved and well-liked by her teachers. She also excelled in academics. You could say… I was a little different.
Again, thanks for all you did for me and for being here.

RIP, Selby.  Thank you for your years of dedicated, skilled work with CVTC Food Operations.  Your calm and smiling spirit remains well remembered.

Selby it is going to be hard not seeing your smiling face any longer.  We really had some good times when I stayed with when I was a teenager.  Maybe now you can find out if it was grandpa who came to visit us at the house on the hill. Please send me some kind of message if it was him.  We also drew closer once we were both married and Dale(DC) and William became close friends too.  We will never have those 3 hour long phone calls between us four again. I hope we can all meet up again someday.  You will be greatly missed dear cousin Selby!
