Obituary of Walter "Buddy" Edward Ogden Sr.
Walter Edward Ogden, Sr., 92, of Madison Heights who was born on September 7, 1926, passed away on January 4, 2019, after a courageous eight month battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Helen Morris Ogden. Also surviving are his children, Walter E."Tadpole” Ogden, Jr. and his wife Brenda, Gayle Ogden Wyatt and her husband Ronnie and Dawn Schmitz. He is further survived by his grandchildren,Todd Richeson, W.E. “WE” Ogden, III, William F. Ogden and Skylar Schmitz, as well as, his great grandchildren, Matthew Wells, Shelton Richeson, Jordan Richeson, Caleb Ogden and Bella Ogden. Further, his is survived by his brothers and sisters, William H. Ogden, Sr., Dorothy Hunt, Thomas K. Ogden, Barbara Dawson, Larry Ogden and Larion Ogden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Fairfax Ogden, Sr. and Ruby Doss Ogden, his grandson, John Nelson Ogden, and his brothers, Ashby Lee Ogden, John Otis Ogden and Raymond F. Ogden, Jr. He was employed for over 40 years with the Mead Corporation in Lynchburg as the lead pipe fitter. Prior to his work, he served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Charles R. Ware. He was a 1988 graduate of the Amherst County Bible Institute and a member of Christ Community Church in Monroe, where he served as deacon emeritus. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Glenn Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park, where Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Community Church, the Monelison Rescue Squad or to the Monelison Fire Department.
