Anita was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 7, 1937 to George C. and Daisy Lee (Bailey) Engwall. She grew up in Philadelphia and spent her summers at the Jersey shore in Avalon, NJ. She was a graduate of Girls High in Philadelphia and University of Delaware with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a 2nd grade teacher before having a family, and later in life returned to have a career tutoring special needs adults. She was married to Alan C. Elsworth for 25 years and had one daughter, Lisa Lynne (Elsworth) Sayre. She relocated to the Charleston, WV area in 1995 to be with her family. She was a Christian who found comfort in Christian music and reading her Bible, as well as an accomplished seamstress and gardener. She enjoyed many types of arts and crafts and playing games, with Yahtzee and Uno being two of her favorites.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lisa and devoted son-in-law, David, granddaughters whom she loved and cherished with all her heart, Jessica and Madeline, all of Charleston, WV; sister, Geraldine Erichson, of West Deptford, NJ; and sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Tom Devitt of Cape May Court House, NJ, as well as seven nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Good Living for five years of wonderful and compassionate service and care, especially, Karen Glazier, who gave Anita (and all) many happy memories in the assisted living home she envisioned and built with her husband and supportive and loving staff. There are no words to describe the gratitude for the care Anita received in her time at Good Living-they were family to her during the last years of her life. Special thanks to all the residents and family members who our entire family have come to know and care for over the last five years and who in turn cared for Anita. Additionally, the family would like to thank Kanawha Hospice and Travel MD for the care they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Living in memory of Anita Elsworth, 4017 Salines Dr, Charleston, WV 25306.
A private graveside service will be held this summer in Fairview Cemetery, Cape May Court House, NJ where Anita will be laid to rest beside her mother, Daisy Lee (Bailey) Engwall and grandmother, Ella L. Lysinger.
