Dorothy Ann (McDaniel) Dillon, 78, of Fosterville/Seth, West Virginia, passed away on February 14, 2026. She was born on June 25, 1947, in Winifred, West Virginia, and resided in Fosterville/Seth, West Virginia, where she spent most of her life and built a home filled with love.
Dorothy was the heart and soul of her family, a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and cherished great-grandmother. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her world, her pride, and her greatest joy. She loved her grandchildren beyond measure and was absolutely the best “Nanny” in the world. She always put them first, and spending time with her great grandbabies brought her endless smiles. She loved watching them play and listening to them share stories about their days.
Dorothy shared a special, unbreakable bond with both of her children. She was more than a mother, she was her daughter’s best friend, her safe place, and her greatest support. They were inseparable, sharing a bond filled with love, laughter, and trust. She was also deeply proud of her son and loved him with her whole heart. Being their mom was her greatest blessing and her greatest joy.
She shared 47 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Robert A. Dillon Jr. (“Pickle”). Together they built a life filled with love, faith, and family. Dorothy always enjoyed “keeping him in line,” and their love and partnership were admired by all who knew them.
Her sisters were a very important part of her life, and she loved each of them dearly. Family meant everything to Dorothy, and she made sure everyone always felt cared for and supported. She was never afraid to speak her mind and always let those she loved know her opinions—good or bad—because it came from a place of love, honesty, and wanting the best for everyone.
Dorothy had a true servant’s heart and spent her life helping others. She opened her home and her heart to many foster children, loving and raising them as her own. She was deeply involved in her community and served in many roles throughout her life, including as a Girl Scout leader, teacher’s aide, nurse’s aide, and postal clerk. No matter where she was or what she was doing, Dorothy always found a way to care for others and make a difference.
She loved cooking, sharing recipes, watching the cooking channel, and making sure everyone was well fed and taken care of. She was truly everyone’s “Nanny.”
Dorothy especially loved her job with Amazing Grace Fellowship at the after-school program, The Rock, where she worked as a cook for the children. Being there filled her heart completely. To them, she was “Ms. Dorothy,” and they were all her babies. She loved each one as her own.
She also worked at Whitesville State Bank for many years, beginning as a janitor, later becoming a teller, and retiring while working in bookkeeping. She truly loved her job and the people she worked with. Even after retirement, she remained close with many of her coworkers who became lifelong friends. Our family would like to thank the Miliam family for being so kind and loving to her over the years. She always considered them her “bank family.”
Dorothy loved staying connected with family and friends. She enjoyed Facebook and messaging those she cared about, talking on the phone, and checking in on everyone. One of her greatest joys was writing letters to her pen pals—many of whom she had been corresponding with since she was a teenager. She continued handwriting letters faithfully to this day, sharing kindness, encouragement, and friendship.
She was a member of Sylvester Baptist Church in Sylvester, West Virginia, and loved her church family dearly. Her faith meant so much to her, and she found comfort, strength, and joy in worship and fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her father, Orville Ray McDaniel; her mother, Elizabeth L. (Craigo) McDaniel; her sister, Brenda K. Adkins; and her brothers, Orville Ray McDaniel Jr. and Rick B. McDaniel.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert A. Dillon Jr.; her son, Harry N. “Chip” Blount and his wife Brandy; and her daughter, Patricia S. “Trish” Foster and her husband Adam.
She is also survived by her sisters, Donna Pauley, Suzzi McDaniel, Sandi Cedeno, Terry Harris, Jeannie White, and Karen “Frankie” Sadd; her brother, David W. McDaniel; her brothers-in-law, David Pauley, Cristian Cedeno, and Chris Sadd; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Johnathan “Chip” Elrod and spouse Jon, Devynn Foster and spouse Sarah, Adam Foster II, Jeremy Blount and spouse Casey, Tyler Foster and fiancée Morgan, Justin Foster and fiancée Alivea, Angelica Blount, Jackson Foster, Ashleigh Blount, and Juan Jose Hayek.
She was a proud great-grandmother to Mason, Octavia, Miles, Asher, and Kohen, who brought her endless joy.
Dorothy will be remembered for her gentle heart, her selfless love, her strength, and her constant care for others. She gave endlessly, loved deeply, and left behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will live on through her family and everyone whose life she touched.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Dorothy is now at peace, resting in the arms of Jesus and reunited with loved ones who went before her. She is healed, whole, and rejoicing in Heaven, where there is no more pain or sorrow. Her love will forever remain in our hearts, and her spirit will continue to guide and watch over us until we meet again.
