

Eugene Jefferson Ward, 76, of South Charleston, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of West Virginia, born June 27, 1938 in Wevaco to the late Charles Franklin and Mildred Marie Bowyer Ward. Eugene retired in 1995 as the assistant superintendent with the Unemployment Compensation Division - WV Bureau of Employment Programs. He was a graduate of WV Tech with a BA in Social Studies, was inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta (a National Honorary Historical Society) and was a member of Who’s Who of American Colleges. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and was a former member of the WV Army National Guard. Eugene is survived by his daughter, Lisa Ward of South Charleston; son, Larry (Margaret) Ward of Sedalia, MO; mother of his children, Nellie Ward; special friends, Glenn Revels and Freda Morton; sisters, Shirley Dickerson of Rand, Carolyn Ward of Sharon and Esther Taylor of Dry Branch; brothers, Bobby Ward of Cabin Creek and Chuck Ward of St. Albans; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden. The burial will follow the service in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow with military honors. Family and friends will gather for the visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests random acts of kindness in honor of Eugene Jefferson Ward.
