Ivan Bryce Taylor, 89, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 29, 2018, after enduring 13+ years of kidney dialysis. Born May 3, 1929, he was the son of Arthur Milton Taylor and Dovie Florence Harper Taylor. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Lois Jean Taylor, brothers, Delford, Elton, Matthew, Clifford, Oral, Joe and sisters, Ada Clay, Sybil Clay, Naomi Pence, Mildred Mullins and Tessie Myers.
Ivan was a loving husband to his wife of 69 years, Emma Rucker Taylor, and father to his daughters, Connie Bair-Midkiff (Jim), Rhonda Davis (Mike), and grandchildren, Heather Bair, Jordan Davis, and Justin Davis. He is also survived by his sister, Garnet Summers and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Ivan retired from Libby-Owens Ford with 30 years of service and was a member and Deacon of Oakridge Bible Church, which he helped build. He later attended Bethany Baptist Church where he loved to sing in a quartet and choir. He was a multi-talented man who could build or repair anything and was always willing to lend a hand to friends and neighbors.
Among his many hobbies, Ivan enjoyed playing harmonica, guitar, golf, and horseshoes, as well as waterskiing into his 70’s. He also took pleasure in camping, boating, playing all kinds of games and he especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He treasured his yearly family reunions, and missed only one in over 50 years. After retirement, Ivan taught himself woodworking and made jewelry boxes, Barbie display cases, stools, a magazine stand, television cabinet and Hope Chest, along with a lighted Christmas Angel that adorns the roof today.
The family would like to thank Dr. William Harris, Dr. Hatem Hossino, Greater Charleston Dialysis, DeVita employees who treated him with such kindness and everyone who has sent cards or visited.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home in Malden with Pastor Rodney Smith and Rev. David Keeney officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. Friends may gather with family 11:30 a.m. until time of service.
