

Martha L. Patchell Mason Belcher, 71, of Hernshaw, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 2, 2014. Martha was born in Charleston on April 11, 1943, to the late Rev. D.C. and Emily Wallace Patchell. She was a very devoted Christian and a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Kanawha City. She drew her strength from daily personal Bible Study and her love of southern gospel music. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Gary D. Mason and James “Turk” Belcher. Martha is survived by her daughter, Carissa McDowell and husband, Lee, of Charleston; step-children, Michael (Jeanie) Belcher, Steven (Janie) Belcher and Andrea (Robert) Cooper; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her two furry children, Jingles and Shiloh and grand dog, Scarlett. Martha is also survived by three sisters and one brother, Mary (Paul, deceased) McNeal, David (Paula) Patchell, Emma (Bud, deceased) Atkinson and Ruth (Kermit) Hudson; and was Marney to many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Kanawha City, with Pastor Gary Hall officiating. A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank the nurses at CAMC, Gabby, Karen, Linda and Sara.
