Sandy was a voracious reader, a singer, and loved ballroom dancing. She was the first in her immediate family to complete a higher education degree, having earned an Associate’s from Morris Harvey College. She worked as a Medical Laboratory Technician for many years before retiring as a secretary for the State of WV. She performed with the Charleston Light Opera Guild for Mame and Showboat in the 1990s. She was an advocate for the LGBTQ community and HIV patients in a time when that was uncommon.
Sandy was always a hopeless romantic and while she didn’t find true love in this lifetime, we hope she finds it in the next. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her graciousness, and her love for all things sparkly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; favorite child Chad Adams, Heather Adams, Donnie Carpenter, and Krystal Carpenter; grandchildren, Alexander Adams, Riley Hardin, Harley Carpenter, and Jackson Carpenter; aunt, Rachel Walker; special friend, Adola Miller; and a host of cousins and friends.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Kanawha Hospice Care, with special thanks to Leslie Talbert, Shannon Lantz, and the staff of Hubbard Hospice House for their outstanding care.
At Sandy’s request, cremation has been honored and a Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Rev. Dalton Hudnall officiating. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311 or Kanawha Charleston Humane Society 1248 Greenbrier Street Charleston, WV 25311.
