John is survived by his beloved wife Bonnie of 42 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. John and Bonnie had a blended family of 5 children, John C. Korbeil and Julie, Joseph B. Strasser and Noelle, Lisa S, Bill and Christopher, Melanie A. Rudeau and John, and Jennifer A. Boarman and Tim. John had 12 beautiful grandchildren that were the light of his life. John is also survived by his sister, Joan Cafro and his 3 nieces and nephews as well as his 4 great nieces and nephews.
John worked at Western Electric and then AT&T for 33 years before retiring early. He enjoyed his retired life and spent many happy years fishing and boating. Ever since he was a young man, he always had a boat, Bonzo 2 was his last and favorite. His love of water led him to the Florida Keys where he shared another boat with his son and son-in-law enabling him to get out on the water year-round.
John and Bonnie enjoyed many happy times in the Keys with its beautiful weather and more relaxed pace. John also enjoyed spending summers in LBI, fishing and hanging out with Bonnie and his friends.
While fishing was a strong passion, John's first love was his family. Together with Bonnie, he doted on his family, never missing the important games, recitals, and graduations. An accomplished cook, he thought nothing of whipping up holiday dinners for 24 (and breakfast, and lunch) and in these moments his pride was palpable. When he wasn't cooking for the family, he enjoyed cooking for friends and many of his friends called him "chef John".
John was a grateful recipient of a kidney transplant which served him well. Donations can be made in his memory to John Hopkins Medicine Support Transplant Surgery or to a charity of your choice.
John will be greatly missed, and it seems fitting that the passing of such a pillar in our family was marked this week by both an earthquake and a solar eclipse.
A private Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a later date.
