

Joseph Sabella, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He peacefully passed away on March 31,2023 surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was born on June 3,1937, and is predeceased by his mother Catherine Sabella and his foster mother, Madeline Tartara in a loving home.
Joseph married Marie Aquilino on June 11,1960 and was happily married for over 62 years.
Joe is survived by his loving devoted wife Marie. He is predeceased by his two brothers, Paul and Lenny. He is survived by his siblings John, Theresa, Anna and George. He is survived by his three children: Anne Marie (Husband John), Joseph (wife Carolyn) and Michael (wife Laurie). Joe and Marie were blessed with 7 grandchildren: John Michael DePinto (Wife Theresa), Thomas Joseph, Michael Joseph, Gabriella Marie, Ava Lauren, Gianna Joie and Joseph Anthony Vincent and 1 great grandson, Angelo Joseph DePinto.
Joe served in the military service Naval Reserves from 1955 to 1967 as a Second Class Yeomen. Joe graduated from Richmond College with a B.S. in Psychology and Economics.
Joe was in the Import Export business for 38 years. He was licensed as a Customs House Broker by the Dept. of Treasury.
Joe was very accomplished in his community and his Church. He was the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and also the District Deputy in Metuchen. He founded the new council - Nativity of our Lord Council, Monroe Township, NJ. He actively served in multiple states: Staten Island, NY and Metuchen, NJ; and a 4th Degree Knight in Little River, SC. Joe was actively fundraising for many in his community. He ran a Doo-Wop show in which the proceeds were donated to Holy Rosary School for needy children in Staten Island, NY. He ran a country western dance in which the proceeds were donated to Holy Rosary School for Language and Science Laboratories. He raised funds for scholarships that helped young people reach their individual goals in life. Joe raised funds for the Special Olympics.
He also arranged a Right to Life Mass at St. Peter’s Church, and the proceeds were donated to Good Counsel Home for Unwed Mothers, also, part of the money was donated to Pro-Life.
At St. Sylvester’s Parish, Staten Island, NY, Joe was the past president of the Richmond Division of the Holy Name Society; established a Junior Holy Name Society at St. Joseph’s by the Sea High School; and was also past president of the Holy Name Society in Monroe, New Jersey. He ran multiple fundraisers for these organizations along with teaching the children to give back service to their community. At St. Sylvester’s church he also served as the past president of the Parish Council. He taught in the CCD Religious Education programs in Staten Island, New Jersey and South Carolina. He was a Eucharistic Minister serving the parish, the homebound, and patients in the hospital in all three states. He was also an usher.
He received the AARP award for Teacher of the Year. He was a founder of the Italian American Social Club of The Encore Gated Community in Monroe, New Jersey.
Joseph changed the lives of many by his compassionate ways of the gifts that God gave him and he will never be forgotten.

A visitation will occur Saturday, April 8, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. A funeral service will occur Monday, April 10, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at St Mary's Of The Pines, 100 Bishop Lane, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. A committal service will occur Monday, April 10, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Rt 1 North, Woodbridge, NJ 07095.
