He was born in Teaneck then after serving in the Army, he moved to Manahawkin to settle down with his family. He quickly joined the Stafford Volunteer Fire Company and served his community for over 50 years. He was also one of the founders of the Stafford Little League and volunteered many years following. It was such a honor for him to serve as Grand Marshal in Stafford's Founders Day Parade in 2009.
He is predeceased by his wife, Deanna, his son, Kevin Samler and his daughter, Cindy Hilbert. He is survived by his son, Thomas Samler and his wife Sandy of Florida and his daughter Roxanne Dimino and her husband Eugene of Barnegat. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 5-8pm at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ 08050. a burial service will occur Friday February 2, 2024 from 11:30-12:45 at Brig. General Wm. C. Doyle Veteran Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd., Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in his name to Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter.
