Herb was born May 6, 1932 in Newark, NJ, to parents Solomon and Freda Beeber. Herb attended Weequahic High School in Newark where he met and fell in love with Gertrude (Trudy) Berkowitz. They married in 1953. The couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this past December.
After serving in the military, Herb graduated from Seton Hall University majoring in Education. He taught grade school in the Newark and Scotch Plains School Systems before being named Principal of Lavallette Elementary School at the Jersey Shore. Later in life, Herb served as Head Master at Admiral Farragut Academy in Pine Beach, NJ.
For much of the 1960’s Herb and his wife Trudy owned and operated the Cedar Hill Bungalow Colony in New York’s Catskills Mountains, providing lodging to visitors of the region during their summer vacations.
A lifelong lover of travel, much of Herb’s subsequent summers were spent touring the country with his family in their RV, eventually visiting almost every state in the US, and learning about the nation’s history, culture, and natural resources. In his later years, Herb’s love of adventure never waned, and he and Trudy visited numerous destinations throughout the world, including much of Europe, China and the Far East, as well as the Soviet Union just prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Herb and Trudy also enjoyed dozens of sea cruises in their time together.
Herb will be remembered most for his love and support of family, gentle nature, engaging storytelling, and mischievous sense of humor.
He is survived by his loving wife Trudy, his 3 children, Neal Beeber, Beth Britton, and Jay Beeber and their spouses Michelle, James, and Heather. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Eric Britton and wife Deanna, Steven Britton and wife Samantha, Jeffery Britton, and Jacob Beeber.
