With great love and sorrow, our family announces the loss of Irvin Feins to multisystem atrophy, a rare progressive illness for which there is no treatment and no cure.
Irvin grew up in Revere, Massachusetts - his mother was a kindergarten teacher who had her own preschool and kindergarten and his father was a teacher. His parents owned a camp where he worked many summers. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated high school at the age of 16 and Boston College at 20. He went on to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to get a PhD in inorganic chemistry. In his early years, he did research for various companies and went on to become the "science person" and traveled the world making presentations for Engelhard Industries, now BASF. His love of London was known by
all of us and it was no surprise when we found out through a DNA search he shared a paternal line ancestor with King Richard III - an "aha" moment for our family.
At age 26 he married Linda, the love of his life, and was a devoted and involved father to his children Daniel and Wendy. His family was his world - he loved his daughter-in-law Jessica and his 3 special grandchildren Shane, Sam and Ben and they adored him. He leaves his brother Stephen and many cousins. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. His spirit of
giving back, kindness and caring for others lives on in his family. "Tzedakah and acts of kindness are the equivalent of all the mitzvoh of the torah." (Jerusalem Talmud)
He loved poker, all Linda's special dishes, Mozart, opera, Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, all British detective shows and the New York Times and traveling.
After retiring he volunteered for middle school students at McIntosh Middle school where he also tutored math and science. He led Shabbat services at Aviva for 10 years with Linda where he also ran a poker game for residents that was very popular. He was a Science Fair judge, a Sarasota Opera and La
Musica volunteer. He worked tirelessly for the Obama campaign.
The family wishes to thank all who took the time to visit him at Aviva, for the treats you brought him, the cards and phone calls and your support of Linda, Daniel and Wendy.
"The song came on today, the one you loved. And I sang along. I hope you are singing too."
