Jay was a graduate of Brooklyn College in 1968 and later received his Masters Degree. Jay worked as a teacher for the New York Board of Education for 36 years prior to retiring. After retiring from the school system he worked for Monroe Township Recreation. He was very passionate about education and served for many years on the Monroe Township Board of Education where he also served as president.
Jay Married his wife Joyce Savit in 1971 and settled in Monroe Township, NJ in 1974.
Jay is survived by his wife of 49 years Joyce Savit Brown, his daughter Tara Brown and her husband Ari Mittleman of Baltimore MD, his son Michael Brown and his wife Rori of Rockville MD, and three grandchildren, Miles, and Peyton Brown, and Eliora Mittleman. He was an exceptional father and grandfather who took tremendous pride in his family.
A funeral service for Jay will be held Monday, October 19, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, New Jersey 07726. The Funeral Home will be limited to a maximum capacity of 50 people inside the building, however there will be speakers outside the building. Those who cannot come inside will still have the opportunity to listen to the service and pay their respects to the family outside.
Following Funeral Services to the internment at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Route 79, Marlboro, NJ 07746 at 2:00 pm. Those who wish to pay their respects but are unable to attend the service at the Funeral Home due to capacity restrictions are encouraged to participate in the internment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to United States Holocaust Museum, the Jewish National Fund, or New Beginnings Animal Rescue, East Brunswick, NJ.
The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Joyce Brown on Monday from 6:30-9pm, Tuesday from 2-4pm, and 6-9pm and will conclude on Wednesday from 2-4 pm.
Tara will also be sitting shiva at her home in Baltimore on Thursday 1-4 pm, and 7-9pm, on Friday from 1-4 pm, Saturday 7-9 pm.
