Marty grew up in Rockland County, NY, lived in Fair Lawn, NJ about 30 years, and upon retirement moved to Lakewood, NJ, and then Cedar Crest Senior Living in Pompton Plains, NJ.
Marty received his BS degree from Syracuse University. He served in the US Army before returning to university, receiving his MS degree from Columbia University, and then served in the reserves for several years. He was a recipient Rensselaer Gold Medal for the highest grade in mathematics for three years.
With his late brother, Artie, he owned Atlantic Books and Cards, renamed in later years Atlantic Cards and Gifts, at the Garden State Plaza.
Marty met his wife Barbara when he retired to Lakewood. He discovered that he loved being a husband and a stepfather and was thrilled to later become a grandfather and great-grandfather to Alan's children and grandchildren. His move to Cedar Crest, where he lived the last 10 years, opened up more opportunities for Marty. He was a popular resident at Cedar Crest, performing in concerts, participating in every card game he could fit in his schedule, hanging out with Marilyn and friends, and always walking around with a smile on his face and a greeting for everyone he met.
Marty was predeceased by his wife Barbara (Schulsinger), his parents Helen and Hyman, and his brother Arthur (Artie).
Marty is survived by his stepson, Alan Schulsinger and his wife Yifat, his five step-grandchildren Meir Broder, Hannah Schulsinger, Daniel Schulsinger, Magan Schulsinger, and Eliza Lieberman and her husband Daniel and their three children. He is also survived by his sister Eleanor Frank and her husband Howard, his nephew Merrill Frank, his nieces Wendy Frank, Loren Da Silva and her husband Andrew Ety, Marcey Cook and her husband Steve, and his dearest friend at Cedar Crest, Marilyn Kaplan.
There will be a graveside service at 11am on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Riverside Cemetery, 12 Market St., Saddle Brook, NJ 07663. Friends and relatives should meet at the cemetery office at 10:30am.
