Mel is survived by his wife Elinor of 62 years; daughter Ilene Katcher and her husband Ken; son Michael Goldberg and his wife Amy; grandchildren Jason Katcher; Zachary Katcher and his wife Allison; grandson Dylan Katcher and his wife Nikki; granddaughter Stephanie Goldberg; four great-grandchildren: Anthony, Ezra, Seraphina, and Ayla; brother Bob; and sisters Karen and Audrey.
He was predeceased by his parents Reuben and Rose Goldberg.
A funeral service will be held on January 19, 2026 at 9:00 am at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, New Jersey 07726. The service will be available via live stream at: https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/c26017855117934
A committal service will follow at 11:30 am at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, New Jersey 07675.
Shiva will be observed at the residence of Mel and Elinor on Monday from 5:00pm – 8:00pm as well as Tuesday and Wednesday from 1:00pm – 3:00pm and 5:00pm – 8:00pm.
