Florence (Bean) Cote, 90, died as she lived, surrounded by her loving family. Florence passed into eternal life on October 5, 2017 at Hanover Hill Healthcare Center after a brief illness. She was born in Manchester, NH, on September 17, 1927, the daughter of Roland and Florence (Desjardins) Bean and was a lifelong resident of the Queen City. She was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester Central High School, Class of 1945. Florence was also a graduate of Houle’s Beauty Academy.
She was employed for many years as a hairdresser at William and Bonnie’s and was also a long-time employee of Martin’s Hosiery and Ames. She enjoyed travelling, dining out, creating floral arrangements, bowling, and socializing with family and friends, especially “Bean Bashes”. She also enjoyed donating her time the March of Dimes. She was a member of St. Pius X Church and a former member of St. Joseph Cathedral. Florence was the very first crossing guard hired by the city of Manchester. She will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, step-grandmother, sister and friend.
She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years Robert Cote in 1994, her son Daniel in 1989 and her sister Jeannette Wike.
Members of her family include her children, Donna Anzalone and her companion Michael Gosselin of Manchester, Robert Cote and his wife Connie of Bow, Debra Dickson and husband Michael of Alton Bay, Tommy Cote and his wife Janice of Indianapolis, IN and Rhonda Schmidt and her husband Eric of Manchester. She had great love for all of her grandchildren including Scott, Nathan, Joseph, Gina, Carl, Johanna, Doug, Lauren, Kenny and Katie, as well as her great-grandchildren Jacob, Audrey and Elliot. Marguerite Joyce and Sandra Proulx were her sisters, as well as her best friends; their husbands’ Richard and Roger were her dear friends, as well.
A special, heartfelt thank you to Hanover Hill Healthcare Center for providing the best, loving care to Florence during her 3 ½ year stay, which she called “home.”
Visitation was held on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover Street, corner of Beech Street in Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, October 10th at 9:30 am at St. Pius X Church, 575 Candia Road, Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bedford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Florence's name be made to the Sisters of the Precious Blood, 700 Bridge Street, Manchester, NH 03104 or to the American Cancer Society, 2 Commerce Drive, Suite 110 Bedford, NH 03110.
