He was born in Manchester, NH, on May 5, 1927 the son of Thomas and Sultana (Papaioannou) Triantafillou and was a lifelong resident of the Queen City.
He was educated in the Manchester School System and was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1944.
He was a US Navy veteran during World War II and served with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed for many years as a relocation specialist with the Manchester Housing Authority. He was also employed at Goulet Supply Co and at Anchor Electric.
“Jimmy 3 Fingers”, as he was lovingly known, was a member of many of Manchester’s social clubs including the Henry J. Sweeney Post #2, Jutras Post, the VFW, the Raphael Club, the Alpine Club and the Mont Royal Club. He also served on the Manchester Fire Department Board of Commissioners.
He was very active in the local sports scene as a player and as the assistant baseball coach for the Sweeney Post American Legion team and at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) where he spent 25 years as a member of the coaching staff. He also spent decades as a volunteer coach at the local YMCA. In recognition of his service to youth athletics, he was the recipient of the Carl Lundholm Award in 2007, and he was inducted into the Queen City Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. He loved spending time at his summer home in Pittsburg, NH, and was instrumental in the founding of the Girls Softball League in that area.
Members of his family include his brother Andrew Triantafillou and his wife Dolores of Carrboro, NC, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his brother Socrates Triantafillou and his sisters Athena, Sophie, Cleopatra and Constance.
He will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends who knew him.
Calling hours were held on Tuesday August 2, 2011 from 4 to 8PM at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St corner of Beech St. A Funeral Service was celebrated in the funeral home at 5:30 by Fr. Athanasios Nenes. Burial was on Wednesday August 3rd at 10AM in the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim’s name to the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester, 555 Union St., Manchester, NH 03104.
