

Manuel J. “Mike” Moniz, 93, of Manchester, died June 19, 2015 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Manchester on September 25, 1921 the son of Manuel J. and Liduina (Xavier) Moniz and was a lifelong resident of the Queen City. He was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester Central High School class of 1941A.
He was a proud veteran of the US Army during World War II having served in France during the Battle of the Bulge and also during the D-Day Invasion. Following his discharge he was employed at the A&P Supermarket with more than 35 years of service and after his retirement worked for the City of Manchester and also for BankEast. He was a member of Henry J. Sweeney Post #2 and the Mt. Royal Club. “Mike” enjoyed a variety of sports and won many tournaments playing ping pong, horseshoes, badminton & pool. He was an avid tennis and cribbage player, was a talented ballroom dancer and enjoyed trips to Hampton Beach.
The last two decades of his life were shared with Mim Sprague whose friendship and love did much to improve the quality of his life. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was predeceased by his sisters Hilda Pitanis and Lydia Tomaskovic.
Members of his family include his two sons Steve Moniz and his wife Joanie of Manchester and Michael Moniz and his wife Julie of New York City, NY, his two daughters Marlene Moniz of Philadelphia, PA and Mary Moniz of Midlothian, VA, his six grandchildren Mallory Kirschnick, Marissa Kirschnick, Marty Kirschnick, Megan Walker, Ashley Walker and Manuel Moniz, his partner Muriel “Mim” Sprague of Manchester and his step-grandchildren Scott Pepin and his wife Lisa and Donalee Pelletier and her husband Ted as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Wednesday June 24 from 11 am to 1 pm at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester followed by a Memorial Service at 1 pm in the funeral home. Urn burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Mike’s name be made to the American Cancer Society 2 Commerce Dr. Suite 110 Bedford, NH 03110.
