

Sophia Makris, 92, of Manchester, died June 5, 2014 at the Villa Crest Nursing Center after a brief illness. She was born in Manchester on February 16, 1922 the daughter of Thomas and Vaia Tsimtsos. She was raised and educated in Greece and met her husband while living there. She returned to Manchester in 1940.
She was employed at the Arms Textile Mills and also at Velcro USA.
Sophia was an excellent cook and loved getting together with her family and friends. She was also talented in knitting and crocheting. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was predeceased by her husband Demetrios Makris in 1996 and by her daughter Jean Cygan, her granddaughter Margo Adamakos-Jones, her sister Helen Lekas, and her brother Peter Tsimtsos.
Members of her family include her son Steve Makris and his wife Mary and her daughter Joanne Adamakos all of Manchester, her grandchildren Christina Makris, Nicholas Makris, Samantha Jones, Thomas Adamakos, Kimberly McGuire, Matthew Cygan, and Peter Adamakos, her seven great-grandchildren and her sister Aglaia Martin of Manchester as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family would like to thank the Villa Crest Nursing Center for the exceptional care that she received.
Services were private. The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
