

She was born on February 21, 1925, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York, to parents Paul and Mary (née Zucca) Pappalardo. Catherine was raised in the the Lower East Side, where she attended and graduated from Washington Irving High School.
It was in that vibrant and close-knit community where she met the love of her life, Mario Gulinello. The two married and moved to Sacramento, California, where Mario was stationed in the military.
The couple eventually returned to New York’s Lower East Side, where they welcomed their two sons, Frank and Paul. In 1963, they moved to Staten Island before retiring to Florida for 22 wonderful years. In 2002, Catherine moved to Manchester Township, New Jersey, where she remained for the rest of her life.
Smart, capable, and confident— Catherine worked for many years at her father's wholesale and retail beer business. She then went on to manage properties, work in real estate, and became an Assistant manager for the NYC Housing Authority.
A proud member of the Greatest Generation, Catherine embodied the spirit and resilience of the era that shaped her character. She was the kind of person who expressed love through food, conversation, and unrivaled, warm hospitality. In her own words, she had “no regrets.” Catherine’s gift for connection endured through time and across miles; she nurtured lifelong friendships and family ties from everywhere she lived—and never lost touch with her roots in Italy.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Mario. She is survived by her sons, Frank Gulinello and his significant other, Louise Nellegar and Paul Gulinello and his wife, Nina. Her grandchildren, Teresa and David Mansell, Marc and Michelle Gulinello, Jaclyn Gulinello, Katherine Gulinello, and Matthew and Michelle Gulinello. Her great grandchildren, Brian and Michael Mansell, Amanda and Anthony Cole, Cali Rose, Evelina, and Paul Luca Gulinello; and, her great-great grandchild, Olivia Grace Cole.
A visitation for Catherine will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM, at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 3010 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ 08759. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 11 to 11:45 AM at St. John's Catholic Church, 619 Chestnut St, Lakehurst, NJ 08733. A committal service will occur Friday, May 16, 2025 from 12:30 to 1 PM at Ocean County Memorial Park Association, Silverton Rd, Toms River, NJ 08753.
