Harriet Evelene Johnson Behrens passed away on March 27, 2020 in Plano, Texas, at age 93. Harriet was born on December 28, 1926 to parents Eveld and Emelia Johansen in Brooklyn, New York. She was raised in Syosset, New York. After graduating from high school Harriet moved to Manhattan and began her working career as a secretary. It was while working at George G. Sharp, Inc. that she met her future husband, Ralph Behrens. After taking a few years off to raise her two children, Harriet resumed her career as a legal secretary. She retired from the litigation bureau in the New York State Attorney General’s Office in June 2001. In her later years Harriet lived in Manchester, New Jersey, and in Garland, Texas.

Harriet was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother who is greatly missed by her family and friends. She loved gardening and was especially proud of her delicious zucchini and tomatoes and the large sunflowers that grew taller than her. She was an avid reader and enjoyed history, especially US and Swedish history. Harriet loved art and was a very talented artist. She left behind many sketches and watercolor paintings of her favorite subjects including the ocean, boats, and various nature scenes and animals. She brought her artwork to life with endearing stories about the subject and her inspiration. Treasured memories of her kind heart, thoughtfulness, good nature, and ever-present warm smile will remain with us forever.

Harriet is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Behrens; two brothers, Harry Johnson, and George Johnson; a sister-in-law, Mary Johnson; and a daughter-in-law, Davette Behrens. She is survived by a son, Carl Behrens of Newark, Delaware; a daughter, Susan Behrens of Garland, Texas; a grandson, Douglas Behrens and his wife Rachael Behrens of Falls Church, Virginia; a granddaughter, Diana Behrens of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and two great granddaughters, Leighton and Skylar Behrens of Falls Church, Virginia.

Harriet was a wonderful woman. I worked with Harriet for many years in the NY State Attorney General's Office. She was a reliable, honest, dedicated, hardworking, woman with a good sense of humor and compassionate to all. I will miss our conversations after she retired and her sense of always looking on the bright side of things. I will miss her sage advice and sense of humor. Rest in Peace, Harriet.
