James V. Marquis

Born in Jersey City, Jim was raised by his mother Margaret Nodes and his grandmother. He met his future wife Linda Leathem Marquis, at the YMCA, where he taught Judo and she taught swimming. The two married on August 10th, 1968 at St. John Vianney Church in Colonia and later settled in Metuchen, New Jersey where they raised their family. Both graduates of Kean University, they built long careers in education before retiring to the Renaissance community in Manchester. Jim and Linda shared 53 years of marriage before his wife’s passing three years ago.

Throughout his career as a teacher in Rahway, Jim was known for his dedication to his students. Outside the classroom, he stayed active by teaching Tai Chi and Judo. He and Linda enjoyed traveling, participating in social clubs and dancing. In their early years of marriage, the couple became avid square dancers. They also loved spending time in Orlando, FL during the colder months, where their son, daughter and grandchildren lived. Over the years, Jim and Linda traveled often and took many cruises and trips together.

Jim was fortunate to find a loving partner, Marcia Sheehan, with whom he spent the last two years of his life. Her companionship brought him great joy, and together they shared many meaningful experiences.

Jim was predeceased by his mother Margaret Nodes of Rahway, and his loving wife Linda Leathem Marquis. Jim is survived by his 3 children - Lisa Marquis Bonnin, Diane Marquis Brennan (husband Mike Brennan) & Jim Marquis (wife Renae Marquis) and his 8 grandchildren: Brittney & Dylan Bonnin; Michael, Riley & Bridget Brennan; Hunter & Gavin Marquis and Zach Bower.

Jim Marquis will be remembered for his dependability and the care he showed as a husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 20th, from 1-4pm at Anderson Campbell Funeral Home in Manchester, 3010 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ 08759. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
