Vera met her husband, Robert Stallings, when they were children nearly 60 years ago. They spent summers at Pine Lake Park together, and developed a love that would last a lifetime. They would waterski, ride motorcycles and enjoy the outdoors together. They got married in the Cathedral of the Air in Lakehurst, NJ when they were in their early 20s. During this time Vera spent her days as an elementary school teacher, and was passionate about helping children learn. She was also passionate about rescuing animals and would make this one of her lifelong missions.
In 1972 Vera's dream of becoming a mother came true when she welcomed her son Travis. Four years later she would welcome her second child, a daughter Deidre. She enjoyed being a stay at home mom and selflessly dedicated her time to taking her children to their many activities.
Vera was a faithful follower of her Lutheran religion and loved reading the Bible. Her instinct to help always prevailed. She was the primary caretaker of her parents, husband and mother-in-law in their times of need, and never turned away a scared or helpless animal. She believed in a life of service to others and lived that life without hesitation.
Aside from her children Vera leaves behind two loving grandchildren, Kayla and Vincent. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and loved watching them grow through the years. Vera also leaves behind a daughter-in-law Diana, and a son-in-law Vincent, both whom she was proud to call family.
There will be a funeral service for Vera on Wednesday, June 14th, 2023, at 11:30 am within the chapel at Ocean County Memorial Park, 1722 Silverton Rd, Toms River, NJ 08753. Cremation will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in memory of Vera to the Popcorn Park Zoo, 1 Humane Way, Forked River, NJ 08731.
