

A veteran of the United States Navy, Art served our country from 1943-1945 during World War II. He retired from the Ashland Times Gazette in September 1986 where he was the Retail Display Advertising Manager. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and the American Legion Harry Higgins Post 88. Art served as City Councilman for two different terms, coached girls softball for Garber's, and coached little league and pony league baseball. He also played church softball and in his later days, enjoyed watching Ashland University girls softball and Faultless Rubber softball. An avid bowler, Art won several trophies and also enjoyed woodworking.
Art is survived by five children, Kathy Willis of Parma Heights, Paula Hull of Huron, Timothy Mackey of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Lori (Brad) Gumpf of Amherst and Stacey (Frank) Azok of North Ridgeville; two step daughters, Kelly (John) Faddis Rogers of Franklin and Tracey (Mark) Faddis Vogel of Westerville; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Sally Smith Mackey; twin brother, Lawrence Mackey; an infant grandson, Timothy Mackey; mother-in-law, Betty Gerwig Smith; father-in-law, Ralph Smith; and three sisters-in-law, Linda Smith Funk, Ruth Mackey and Betty Mackey.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland conducted by Rev. Jeffrey W. Coggins. Burial will follow in Ashland County Memorial Park where full military services will be conducted by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call starting at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
