Bertha retired from the Mansfield City School Food Services. She was a member of Beta Kappa Tau Sorority and was instrumental in forming the Mansfield Northwest Little League. Bertha was an avid bowler and card player. She loved spending summers at Bay Point playing Texas horseshoes. Bertha and Tony were avid Mansfield Senior High Tyger fans, supporting the sports Booster Club and attending football, basketball and wrestling events from the 1960s through the year 2000 with their children and grandchildren. Bertha's hobbies included: cake decorating, sewing, cooking and gardening. Bertha supported her family, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews; whoever needed her, she was there. As was written about her recently, "The woman who shaped so much of who I am today. She took us in when my mother was in the hospital, loving and caring and so much more, because that is who she was".
She is survived by her children, Carolyn (Jeff) Long, Nancy (Anthony) Pewonski, Charles (Vicki) Glorioso and Larry (Amy) Glorioso; grandson, Tim (Dee) Niswander; granddaughters, Whitney Glorioso and Hayley (Matt) Trittschuh; great-grandchildren, Vicki Gilland, Meghan and Brooke Niswander, Mason, Braxton and Weston Trittschuh and Stella Faith Jordan. Also surviving are her brothers, Ray Simmering and Robert (Carolyn) Simmering; sister, Shelby Jean (Walter) Poth and their families.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Anthony Glorioso; brothers, Charles Jr., Harold and Arthur Simmering; and sisters, Marcella Glorioso, Mildred Young and Betty Kibbee.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario, Ohio. A memorial service will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
