
Bertha Vianna Jackson, 78, of Ashland, died Sunday, January 4, 2009, at Ashland Samaritan Hospital. Born January 15, 1930 in Ashland, she was the daughter of Oscar and Roseanna Watson Cantleberry. After her mother died, she was raised by her grandparents, John William and Laura Vianna DeLong Watson. Bertha graduated from Hayesville High School and went on to work at Hess and Clark for 45 years. A member of the Ashland First Church of the Brethren, she was a 50 year Sunday school teacher, served as Commodore at the Church, and treasurer for the Ladies Fellowship. She was active at the Senior Citizen Center and enjoyed art.
She is survived by several cousins. Along with her parents and grandparents who raised her, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jackson, whom she married February 14, 1981; brothers, Robert, William, Charlie, John, and LeRoy Watson; and sisters, Myrtle Eggerton, Sadie Leiter, and Golda Hiller.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Dickey Cemetery, conducted by Pastor Glenn Springer. Friends may call from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Ave, Ashland, prior to the service.
A meal will be served at the First Church of the Brethren for family and friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland Senior Citizen Center or the Ashland First Church of the Brethren.
