Bette was a graduate of Madison High School and retired in 2004 from the State of Ohio Adult Parole Authority where she worked as a secretary. A very giving and thoughtful lady, she was strong-willed and prepared to defend her values and opinions. In her free time, she could be found reading, completing crosswords or out shopping looking for that special something. She adored her canine companions, her Yorkies.
She is survived by a son, Bryan (Pam) Clay of Chicago, IL; daughter, Cathy (Randy) Hayes of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Keira Myers, Brock Hayes and Carter Hayes; one great-grandson, Mason McCleaf; two brothers, Harold (Beverly) Mortimer of Port Clinton, Ohio and Robert (Connie) Mortimer of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other dear relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Charles O. Clay in 2004; three brothers, John, Charles and Richard Mortimer; and a sister, Margie Mortimer-Sampsel.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m.
