Betty Sue Layne, 79, of Mansfield, died unexpectedly Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Samaritan Regional Health Care System in Ashland. Born November 16, 1934 in Huntsville, Alabama, she was the daughter of Elbert and Annie (Simmons) Nunn.
A homemaker, she was a 1952 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and was a member of First Church of the Open Bible. Betty was deeply devoted to the Lord and was a prayer warrior. She had a good sense of humor, was a great listener and loved being around other people as well as being by herself for some alone time. Betty was an organist for Lighthouse Chapel and enjoyed singing, playing piano, working in her flower garden and spending time with "The Betty's" at church.
She is survived by two sons, Jeff (Sherry) Layne of Butler and Steven Layne of Las Vegas, Nevada; two daughters, Kimberly Cleveland of Portsmouth, Ohio and Michelle (Rick) Hinton of Houston, Texas. three grandchildren, Nathan Layne, Nichole Layne and Cadence Layne; two brothers, Benton R. (Linda) Nunn and Gerald R. (Pam) Nunn both of Greenville, SC; three sisters, Sandra (Frank) Bever of Greenville, SC, Margie (Lee) Arney of Watkinsville, GA and Sharon (John) Sigler of Cumming, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews and other dear relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jefferson Layne.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2014 at the funeral home conducted by her good friend, Pastor James Conn of McMinnville, TN.
