Born August 19, 1950 in Mansfield, Ohio, she was a 1968 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School.
Carol was a retired teacher’s assistant with 25 years of service at Richland Newhope Schools. Her dedication and love for special needs students made her career much more than a job; it was a calling.
Her real passion was for her family, especially the love she had for her grandchildren. Whether spending time on the houseboat at Charles Mill Lake, being with family, traveling, or just cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes, her smile, infectious laugh, wonderful sense of humor, and love for life were very evident to all she met. She was loved by so many. Christmastime was her favorite time of the year. She decorated every room in the house with over 15 trees and spending the holidays with family and friends was her everything.
She was affiliated with many organizations: Mohican Post VFW Auxiliary - Life member; Past President, Ohio DeMolay Mother’s Club; Past Rear Admiral, Red Neck Yot Club, Mifflun Chapter; member of Altrusa, Mansfield, OH; Kentucky Colonels; and a life member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Carol was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clarence and Naomi Pollock.
She is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 47 years, David W. Calland and was so proud of her two children, son, David E. Calland (Worthington, OH) and daughter, Melissa (Calland) Dauterman and husband, David Dauterman (Mansfield, OH). Carol is also survived by her life’s joy, six grandchildren: Alexa Ankrom, Taylor Dauterman, Bailey Dauterman, Jamison Calland, Elizabeth Dauterman, Laura Dauterman; and one sister, Susan (Pollock) Hughes and husband Gary Hughes (Edmonds, WA) and two sisters-in-law, Leah (Calland) Williams and husband Ted (Ontario, OH) and Nancy (Calland) Lamie (Stockton, CA.). She is also survived by loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.
The family wants to give special thanks to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, James Cancer Hospital and Hospice of North Central Ohio (NCO). Both staffs were wonderful and cared for Carol so well.
