On Tuesday, January 1, 2019, surrounded by the support of his loving family, Daniel "Danny" Stephen Krispinsky was called home to heaven to rest in eternal peace with our Lord. He was a devoted, loving husband to the love of his life, Matti (McFarlin) whom he married on July 20, 2013.
He is survived by his parents, Steve and Patti (Sullivan) Krispinsky; a brother, Michael of Portland, OR; and a sister, Kelly of Chicago, IL. In addition, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jeff and Becky (Emmons) McFarlin; brother-in-law, Tyler of Los Angeles, CA; and sister-in-law, MacKenzie of Ashland. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Paul and Anna (Mijavec) Krispinsky; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Marianne (Fleschner) Sullivan.
Danny was born in Ashland on June 16, 1983. He was raised, educated, and resided in Ashland. He was a member of Ashland High School Class of 2002, where he was a three-year letter winner in both soccer and basketball. He went on to earn his BSBA degree from Ashland University where he was a four-year letter winner and captain of the Men's Soccer Team. During his career as a player at AU he was all-GLIAC performer helping the team win the 2005 GLIAC championship, which was a first in school history. Danny also played fourteen year for the Cleveland Donauschwaben Men's Soccer team.
Danny coached for the Ashland High School Boy's Basketball program and the Girl's Soccer program. In 2012, he was head coach for the Boy's Soccer program leading the team to an undefeated season complete with the Ohio Conference Championship. He was recognized with Conference and District Coach of the Year honors.
After earning his BSBA degree, he pursued his Master of Education degree from AU graduating in 2012. While earning his Master of Education, he was the Graduate Assistant Coach for the AU Men's Soccer program.
Sports were a passion for Danny, especially the "Beautiful Game" of soccer. He returned to his alma mater in March of 2013 after accepting the head coaching position of the AU Women's Soccer Team. His successful five-season tenure was highlighted by winning 58 games and five GLIAC tournament appearances. He was voted GLIAC coach of the year in 2016 by his peers.
He had a gift for recruiting talented soccer players for AU. Due to health concerns, he was forced to step aside from the sideline this past fall. He watched his team reach the GLIAC tournament and rejoiced with their success in making the NCAA tournament. Matti was a constant presence of support to her coaching husband often accompanying him on recruiting trips and enthusiastically cheering from the stands. They were a "team" in marriage sharing each other's interest and supporting each other.
Danny was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland sports teams and Tottenham Hotspur. He loved spending time with family sharing delicious food and cheering on all his favorite teams.
He will be sadly missed by many relatives, friends, colleagues, and his AUWS team. He was loved by all who had the blessing of knowing this exceptional young man. Danny had an impact on many lives, leaving a lasting legacy in our Ashland Community.
