Doris Ann (Rutherford) Wooten, 74, of Mansfield, OH, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 24th, 2016 in Galion, OH. She was born on June 4th, 1942 in Jellico, TN to Grover McKinley and Ethel (Bolton) Rutherford. One of 11 children, Doris grew up in Oak Ridge, TN where she graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1960. A beautiful young lady, Doris was preparing to enter the Miss Florida pageant when the love of her life, William “Bill” Glen Wooten, asked her hand in marriage. Without hesitation, she took a bus to Billings, Montana where Bill worked as a railroad switchman, and said “I do.”
Bill and Doris began their life in Montana, first living in Billings, then Great Falls where they had two sons, Todd and Troy and finally in Joliet. She enjoyed cooking, crafting, camping, fishing, homemaking and attending the United Pentecostal Church. During her life, she worked as a switchboard operator, bank teller and bookkeeper, but the thing she loved the most was her family. As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she couldn’t wait to spend time with them and bake her famous chocolate chip cookies.
Doris is survived by her two sons William Todd Wooten (wife, Cheryl) of Valparaiso, IN and Troy G. Wooten (wife, Stefanie) of Mansfield, OH; her three grand-children, Russell Wooten (wife, Alicia) and Rick Wooten of Valparaiso, IN, and Emily Wooten of Mansfield, OH; her great-grandson Spencer Wooten; three sisters, Betty Burke, Mary Wallace and Elizabeth “Libby” Russo; one brother, Jerry Rutherford and a large number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover M. and Ethel (Bolton) Rutherford; her husband, William Glen Wooten; two sisters, Kathryn Imogene “Jean” Clifton and Shirley Summers; and four brothers, infant Gerald Rutherford, Frank Rutherford, Carl Rutherford and Don Rutherford.
Public visitation will be held on Saturday, July 30th, 2016 at 10:00am EST at Christian Life Church, 961 Springmill St, Mansfield, OH 44906, followed by her funeral service at 11:00am. Flowers can be sent directly to the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Special thanks to the staff at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehab Center in Galion, OH for their exceptional care and kindness during Doris’ illness. You’re all angels.
