Edwin R. Schmidt, 75 of 612 S. Trimble Rd. died Thursday June 15, 2000 at MedCentral Mansfield following an extended illness. Mr. Schmidt was born August 17, 1924 in Mansfield being a life long resident. He was a 1942 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and attended Ohio State University. Mr. Schmidt retired from Melvin Felty Architect and Associates. He had also worked for Shafer Valve, R.G. Beer Corporation, and was a partner with Gimble-Schmidt Inc. Mr. Schmidt was a member of First Alliance Church where he was Past Chairman on the Board of Trustees. He was Past Chairman and a member of the Board of Directors for Richland County Red Cross, a member of the Board of Directors and Past President of Mansfield Exchange Club and Past President of Lexington Little League.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Naomi Pfaff Schmidt; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Connie Schmidt of Knoxville, Tennessee; Jay and Teresa Schmidt of Lexington, Ohio; and Tim and Jodi Schmidt of Toledo, Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Terry Hart of Temecula, California; eight grandchildren, Erin, Nathan, Adam, Pete, Austin and McKenzie Schmidt; and Corey and Shannon Hart; one great-grandson, Addison Schmidt; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Phyllis Schmidt of Mansfield; and one sister and brother-in-law, Jean Anne and James Voyik of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Jeannette Schmidt, and a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Jack Hallman.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Charles Holmes. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Alliance Church.
