
Elbert Linkus 'Link' Matney, 80, of Mansfield, died August 22, 2006 at the Louis Stokes VA Hospital in Cleveland. Born January 27, 1926 in Union, West Virginia, he was the son of Emery Howard and Maude Slone Matney. He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII. Mr. Matney retired from Westinghouse after 38 years of service. Link and his wife, Lee owned and operated 'Half Hour Laundry' for 20 years. Mr. Matney attended the Worldwide Church of God. In retirement, Link enjoyed hunting and competitive shooting at Fin, Feather, Fur Outfitters, Richland County Fish and Game, and Morrow County Sporting Clays. Link made many friendships through these activities. He was an active lifetime member and recruiter for the National Rifle Association and an outspoken advocate of the Constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Arms as contained in the Second Amendment.
He is survived by his wife, Leona 'Lee' White Matney; one daughter, Bernetta Owens of Mansfield; three sons and daughter-in-law, Jim Stewart of Columbus, Doug Matney of Alabama, and Toby and Janie Matney of Lexington, Ohio; four grandchildren, Bryan Owens, Brad Owens, Jimmy Stewart, and Ryan Matney; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Matney of Union, West Virginia; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Clarence, Vernie, Walter, George, William, and Henderson Matney; and three sisters, Victoria, Arnell, and Ocie Matney.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2006 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Friends may also call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals in Morehead, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Saturday at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals in Morehead, Kentucky. Burial will follow in Clearfield Cemetery.
