Evelyn K. (Hughes) Baumberger, 87, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away Friday evening, May 12, 2017, at Oak Grove Manor. She was born May 5, 1930, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Lloyd R. and Kathryn E. (Stolle) Hughes.
Evelyn graduated from Madison High School in 1949. She was the first waitress hired at Hilltop Restaurant, a fulfilling position in the most personal way, since this is where she would meet her future husband, Donald Baumberger, when he would stop in for coffee after work. On January 2, 1952, they married and spent the next 65 years together building a wonderful life. Evelyn worked for 20 years at Taylor Metal before retiring. Always wanting to share her wisdom and create special moments with her children, she taught them the genuine meaning of a mother's love. The skills of canning and freezing their food together was a special way of passing on her legacy. Evelyn volunteered her time in her children's lives in many ways including being the Den Mother for her sons' Cub Scout troops for many years. Evelyn loved her pets also, and enjoyed the unconditional love of several dogs and cats throughout the years.
She is survived by her husband, Donald David Baumberger; four children, Allen Baumberger, Dean Baumberger, Kent Baumberger and Gail (David) Wolford, all of the Mansfield area; six treasured grandchildren, Michelle (Allen), Sheri (Jason), Jacob (Danielle), Jeremy (Jenna), Jolene, and Jessica (Benjamin), all of Mansfield; six adorable great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Julia) Hughes of Mansfield.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; and two daughters-in-law, Fran and Camille Baumberger.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Additional visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Minister Dean Jackson will conduct the service. She will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to McElroy Road Church of Christ.
