
George J. Hessey, 84, of Remlinger Road, Crestline, died at home Wednesday, April 16, 2008, following a brief illness. Born January 21, 1924, in Circleville, Ohio, he was the son of George and Edna Bodey Hessey. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1941 to 1945 where he participated in the capture and defense of Guadalcanal, was issued the Honorable Service Lapel Button and recommended for the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from General Motors in Ontario. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, walking and was a Cleveland Indians fan.
He is survived by daughter, Laura Bekeleski, her husband Frank, and her son Steve Schill; daughter Linda Prince, her husband James and their children Derrick Prince and Amanda Smith, daughter Georgetta Parker, her husband William and her daughters Lisa Waterer and Robin Parker, and step sons Dave and Bill Parker; son George Hessey, his wife Diane and their children Ryan, Scott and Jake Hessey; daughter Gloria Stabler, her husband Todd, and sons Joshua Goossens and Craig Stabler; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Katherine Bowers; three brothers, Wayne, Henry and LeRoy Hessey; and special friend, Betty Perry. He was preceded in death in 2000 by his wife, Esther Bell Bauer whom he married January 23, 1946; two brothers; one sister; two half sisters; and a half brother.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Home Care Matters Hospice of Galion, 1220 N. Market St., Galion, OH 44833.
