

Glen A. Boyd, 87, of Mansfield died Monday October 11, 2004 at home after an extended illness. Born March 8, 1917 in Russell County, Virginia, he was the son of John H. and Malissa J. Robinson Boyd. He was a member of the Community Baptist Bible Church and the Steel Workers Union Local 169. Mr. Boyd worked in the coalmines for 20 years prior to moving to Ohio and then retired form Empire Steel after 27 years of service. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and fixing things.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary K. Whited Boyd whom he married June 26, 1945; two daughters, Phyllis and Michael Mortimer and Yolanda Burton, all of Mansfield; one son, Samuel L. Boyd of Faucett, Missouri; four grandchildren, Tina and Michael Jay Meyers, Danette and Eric Czernewski, April K. Burton, and Phillip and Tina Nichols; six great grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua, Danielle, Derrick, Alexis, and Grant; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Olaf Boyd of Swords Creek, Virginia, George and Juanita Boyd of Mansfield, and James Boyd of Lanexa Virginia; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Janey and Walter Peterson of Suffolk, Virginia, Alice Plaster of Akron, Pauline and Vince Tumiello of Owings Mill, Maryland, and Ruby Dye of Cedar Bluff, Virginia; special nephew, Daniel and Cleo Ball of Abington, Virginia; special niece, Nancy Wilson of Raven, Virginia; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Zelma Fackovitz, Jo Ella Kerley, Agnes Hess and Ruth Ratcliff, one brother, Winfred Boyd, and one grandson, Daniel L. Nichols, Jr.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday October 13, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Oak Grove Memorial Park Chapel in Lexington with Dr. Melvin Hobson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice.
