
Gordon Merle Howard, Sr., 80, of Mansfield, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at Oak Grove Manor. Born September 26, 1928 in Smokey Valley, Kentucky, he was the son of Bruce and Laura Stone Howard. Gordon retired from Westinghouse after forty years of service and also owned a gas station on Bowman Street. He loved to coon hunt in his earlier years, and also ran dogs at field trials. Gordon enjoyed gardening, working on cars, and mushroom hunting, and enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to ballgames. Gordon lived for his family. Many friends came to visit him after his retirement to listen to stories of the "old days". He was quite a jokester. Many people depended on "Gordy" or "Uncle Gordy" and he loved helping others.
He is survived by three sons, Bud Brenda Howard, Jr., Mike Rita Howard, and Rick Nancy Howard, all of Mansfield; grandchildren, Mark of Houston, Texas, Brady, Erich, Whitney, and Haley, all of Mansfield; and two step grandchildren; sister, Selma Willard Frush, and their daughter, Diana, of West Carrollton; special friend, Brenda Sikola; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Wagner Howard; and his parents.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the attentive and caring staff at Oak Grove Manor. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner
Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield, conducted by Rev. Henry Parker. Friends may call from 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
