

Harold L. Scott, Sr., 63, left this life on Monday, November 7, 2011. Harold was born on February 28, 1948 in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Sam and Minnie (Moore) Scott. He came to Mansfield at the age of four. Harold was a 1966 graduate of Malabar High School.
He served in the U.S. ARMY and was stationed in Bamberg, Germany. Harold previously worked at Ideal Electric, Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. and United Telephone. On January 30, 1982, he joined the Mansfield Police Department as a patrolman. Harold retired on March 11, 2005 after 23 years of dedicated service. He loved the lord and loved to meet people. He lived his life by the Golden Rule-he always believed in treating people the way he would want to be treated. Harold never met a stranger and always left people feeling glad to have met him.
Always quick with a funny story or useful advice, he could keep you captivated with his witty and insightful conversation. He loved his family dearly and cherished the time spent with each and every one of them. Harold enjoyed metal detecting, riding motorcycles, gardening, trying out the newest gadget, photography, cooking and baking his homemade caramel cakes-a recipe he learned from his mother-were enjoyed by all. He loved playing Spades and Bid Whiz and traveling with his devoted wife.
He was a great bowler, participating in several leagues at Park Lanes and earned the coveted “300” ring for bowling a perfect game. After his retirement, Harold worked for Apple Lane and was currently employed part-time at Samaritan Regional Hospital in Ashland in the Security Dept.
Harold will always be deeply missed by his loving wife and friend, Marilyn (Douglas) Scott; two sons, Harold (Ronda) Scott of Jacksonville, NC and Marlin (Shawna) Scott of Mansfield; four stepdaughters, Demia Hastings of Columbus, Deanna Hastings-Dorsey (Bruce) Mosely of Dublin, and Tabitha Douglas of Mansfield, and Jenéya Darson of Dallas, TX; stepson, Alvonzia Darson III of Mansfield; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Jessie Stinson of Atlanta, GA, Carrie Scruggs and Lucille Edwards, both of Mansfield; five sisters-in-law, Robin Scott and Toni Scott of Mansfield, Alvoyce “Voszi” Douglas of Columbus, including two close sisters-in-law Ethyle Scott of Mansfield and Doris “Dot” Scott of Willard; uncle, Eddie B. Moore of Mansfield; a dear special friend, Roosevelt Scott, Jr. of Ocala, FL; special cousins, Horace “Sonny” (Eather) Moore of Huntsville, AL, Corrine (Frank) Scott and Linda Johnson of Mansfield, and Patricia “Fay” Crumpler of Oakland, CA; “adopted” mom, Pearl Black of Mansfield; and a wide host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel O’Neal; four brothers, Waymon Scott, A.B. Scott, Sam Scott, Jr., and Robert Scott; and a nephew, LaMareo Scott.
Friends may visit from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Fraternal Order of Police services will follow at 3:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery with military honors by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
