

Howard Godfrey Menzel, 91, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at Primrose Retirement Community. He was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on June 4, 1929 to the late Godfrey and Alice (March) Menzel.
Howard was a 1946 graduate of Oshkosh High School. He attended the University of Rochester and graduated in 1950 summa cum laude from Purdue University with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Electrical Engineering. While there, he was a member of the Theta Chi social fraternity. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Mansfield in 1950 while working with the Ohio Brass Company. Howard was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War, later becoming a member of the Korean War Veterans Association. He was the Instructor and Technical Supervisor in Signal Corporation Schools in the United States and Germany between 1953 to 1955.
Howard was an expert in high-voltage electric transmission lines and insulation and was a registered professional engineer in Ohio. He was a senior life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and a member of the National Electrical Manufacturers' Association, having been chairman of several National Committees. He also became a member of the Honorary Engineering Societies Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. Howard held various positions in engineering, marketing and sales in Mansfield, Barberton and Wadsworth, Ohio; and district manager in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He later retired from Hubbell-Ohio Brass Company in 1994.
Howard was Marshal for the Memorial Golf Tournaments in Dublin, Ohio for 13 years and was a former member of the Westbrook Country Club. He was an active member of First Congregational Church where he served as Moderator for 6 years and sang in the Chancel Choir. He enjoyed singing and acting in Rehab Town Roasts and singing in the Mansfield Symphony Chorus. Howard was a member of the MENSA International Society, Hermits Club, past president and secretary of Mansfield Rotary Club, former trustee of Medical Equipment and Supplies Abroad Foundation, former member of Red Cross Board and a former chairman of Inter-Church Council.
He is survived by son, John (Barbara) Menzel of Monroe, North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn (Robinson) Menzel; daughter, Patricia Tinkey; and brother, David (Cathy) Menzel.
