
James A. Bartley, 77, of 420 W. Shore Drive, Lucas, died Thursday evening, May 10, 2007, at Hospice House in Ashland following a brief illness. Born June 4, 1929 in Toledo, he was the son of George A. and Mary Breneman Bartley. An area resident most of his life, Mr. Bartley retired from the Ashland Times Gazette after 40 years of service. He was a life member of B.P.O. Elks #1360, a member of the Eagles 2178, Moose 341, Sons of AmVets 1969 and the RNYC, Mifflun Chapter. He enjoyed fishing, boating at Charles Mill, grilling steaks at the Elks, attending athletic events of his grandchildren, woodcarving Santa Clauses and was known as an all around handyman. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashland.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lucetta Stackhouse Bartley; five children, George A. Ruth Long Bartley, Susan Don Cole, Anne Dan Zimage all of Ashland, James A. Bartley, Jr. of Polk and John M. Pam Bartley of Mifflin; six grandchildren, Eric Nancy Bartley of Mentor, Amy Don Wuthrich of Savannah, George A. Lacy Plant Bartley, III of Hayesville and Amber, Kyle and Kayla Hungerford and their father, Paul; four great grandchildren, Gaven and Derek Wuthrich and Evan and Payton Bartley; one brother, Charles R. Bartley of Santa Rosa, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his in-laws, Mildred Bartley of CA, David and Ann Stackhouse, Sherman and Coretta Stackhouse and Glenna and John Longwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert E. Bartley; and one sister, Harriett Smith.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2007, at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors where Elks services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at the funeral home with Dr. Sanford C.
