Janet was born on August 18, 1924 in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Harry and Edna Hemphill.
She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1942, attended Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, and earned her RN diploma in 1946 from Cleveland General Hospital & Saint Luke’s School of Nursing. After returning to Mansfield in 1957, she began her nursing career at the Richland County Public Health System. After over 30 years of service at Therm-O-Disc in Mansfield, she retired and moved to Fort Myers, Florida to be closer to her family.
Janet is survived by her son, Randal Mercer and his wife, Debbie Ringdahl-Mercer of Fort Myers, Florida; granddaughter, Sasha Iversen and her husband Brian; great-granddaughters, Emma and Annika Iversen of Houston, Texas and grandson Noah Ringdahl and his wife Lindsay; and great-granddaughters, Maya and Maci of Davie, Florida.
There is a place in heaven that has been reserved for Janet Mercer…a place specifically for mothers such as her, who lived life with love and devotion to her family.
And there's a place in our hearts marked that way too, where her dear memory will be loved just as she was loved before she entered eternity.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday March 10, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario. Family and friends are invited to visit for one hour prior to the service, from 12-1 pm. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
