Born on November 1, 1941, in Lakeville, Kentucky, John was the son of Lyman and Elizabeth (Arnett) Croft. He was a proud graduate of Crestline High School, Class of 1959, where he served as senior class president and excelled as a three-sport athlete. John was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in fishing and hunting—especially bow hunting. He was a lifelong fan of Ohio State University athletics and Cleveland sports teams, riding the highs and lows of every season with loyalty and passion. He also enjoyed time spent in several bowling leagues over the years, where he built many lasting friendships.
