
John Glenn Funk, 78, of Mansfield, died Saturday, September 06, 2008 at Mifflin Care Center after a long illness. Born January 7, 1930, in Ashland County, he was the son of Glenn and Lucinda Haggerman Funk. He worked for 43 years as a manager for Funk Bros. Tree Service and was a member of First Alliance Church and the National Shade Tree Association. After retirement he also worked as a custodian for the First Alliance Church for seven years. John loved gardening, woodworking, and had a love of trees and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Muddiman Funk, whom he married October 20, 1950 in Washington, D.C.; daughter, Linda Mark Kotchou of Lucas; son, Brad Jenny Funk of Mansfield; grandchildren, Melissa Caudell, Henry Caudell, Justin Stephanie Funk, Jared Andrea Funk, Brittany Lee, and Steven Lee; great-grandchildren, Cayden and Caleb Caudell; brothers, Kenneth Funk of Oregon, Wilbur Funk of Ashland, and Harold Funk of Texas; sisters, Nellie James of Wooster and Virginia Billhiemer of Columbus; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lewis, Roy, and Miles Funk; and sister, Mary Chapman.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2008, at the Ontario Home of the Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Jim Cheatham and Pastor Doyle Peyton. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Great Commission Fund of the Christian Missionary Alliance.
