
John Louis Hess, 63, of Mansfield died Monday evening October 7, 2002 at Ohio State University Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Hess was born April 17, 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee residing in the Mansfield area since 1946. He retired from Globe Steel as a furnace tender and crane operator after 28 years of service. John loved race cars, especially working on them and restoring them. He liked fish aquariums; he enjoyed being a member of the CB Club, his handle was 'Bad News' the Van Club, and was an avid gun collector.
Surviving are his wife, Roberta D. Hess of Mansfield; his parents, Joe and Josephine Hess of Ontario; one daughter, Janese Hess Jones of Mansfield; one son and his fiancé, John L. Hess Jr. and Rona Cole; five grandchildren, Rick, Makayla, Patrick, Kyle and Blake; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty and Roger Dean of Canton, Ohio; and Linda Hess of Mansfield; four brothers and one sister-in-law, Robert H. Hess of Mansfield; Jim Hess of Lexington; Earl and Jeanette Hess of Ontario; and Leo Hess and Teresa Pifher of Ontario; a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Bud King. He was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Hess.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Thursday October 10, 2002 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. James Bond. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Cancer Association.
