Mac retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army in 1970. He enlisted in 1947 and proudly served his country for 23 years in both Korea and Vietnam. He then began his teaching career at Paris Independent Schools in Paris, Kentucky, and retired from his second profession after 20 years. He was a longtime member of the V.F.W. and N.R.A. A Catholic at heart, if not always in practice, he lived his life according to the Golden Rule.
Mac met his wife, Linda Breitinger, on May 31, where he was her boss in the military. It was love at first sight. They were married a short time later on September 9. A beloved husband, he was a wonderful caretaker of his faithful canine companions over the years. His nieces and nephews considered him an amazing uncle and they relished time spent with him.
He is survived by his wife, Linda McLaughlin; brothers-in-laws, Martin (Vicki) Breitinger, Mark (Mary) Breitinger, Milo (Kim) Breitinger; sisters-in-laws, Jane Glaze and Anita Smith; many nieces and nephews, both local and in Philadelphia and New Jersey; and very dear friends, Judy Horne, Betsy Sale, and Judy Goins.
Mac is preceded in death by his parents; one brother; two sisters; and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
