
John O. Stoner, 87, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at Mifflin Care Center. Born July 14, 1923, in Shiloh, Ohio, he was the son of Oliver and Jenny McElroy Stoner. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Navy. John worked as a master pattern maker for Gorman Rupp for 20 years and retired from Hubble where he was a master wood pattern maker. A caring and easygoing gentleman, John was a perfectionist, especially with his work and was a good friend to all that knew him. He enjoyed trapshooting, playing golf and radio controlled airplanes and helicopters.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Garretson Stoner; two daughters, Claudia Forest Schuck of Ashland and Sue Carl Heuberger of Colorado Springs, CO; a son, Terry Stoner of Mansfield; four grandchildren, David Serena Schuck of Jeromesville, OH, Debra Pete Boyer of Ashland, Sarah Heuberger of Colorado Springs, CO and Melissa Aaron Parker both of Colorado Springs; three step grandchildren; a great grandson, Hunter Schuck; and two nephews, Randy Fry and Danny Stoner. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Helen Griffith Stoner; his second wife, Kathryn Smotherman Stoner; his third wife, Etha M. Riggs Stoner; and a brother, Russel Stoner.
Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2011, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Steve Mortach. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park. Military services will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail at the funeral home prior to going to the cemetery.
