

Joseph P. Childs, 77, of Mansfield, died May 30, 2005 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital. Born May 3, 1928 in Wheeling, West Virginia, he was the son of Floyd Ellsworth and Loretta Jane Bannan Childs. He retired in 1989 from General Motors as a Tool Maker. Mr. Childs was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crestline. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Childs was a member of the F & AM, Venus Lodge, Scottish Rite, VFW, DAV, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Zink Childs; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Rose Mary Childs of Plymouth; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Michael Kidwell of Tipp City; five grandchildren, Tracy Slone, Joseph Childs, Lindsey Childs, Kristin Kidwell, and Joseph Kidwell; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Slone; one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Joine Childs of Anderson, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom and Jim Childs; and sisters, Kathleen Wilson, Joan Grace Childs, Millicent Syrylo, Margaret Chaykowsky, Nancy Childs, and Sarah Jane Jines.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday June 2, 2005 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Jack Moore officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.
