

Joseph “Joe” Stehle, Sr., 91, passed away Thursday evening, June 21, 2012 at MedCentral Mansfield. He was born April 2, 1921 in Mansfield to the late Philip and Julia (Erre) Stehle, Sr. He served during WWII in the Philippines in the U.S. Army. Joe retired from Columbia Gas where he worked as a service man. An avid reader, he enjoyed refinishing antiques and furniture and was an antique dealer at Yesteryear Mart. Joe also enjoyed fishing and boating at Lake Erie and Pleasant Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geneva “Jenny” McElroy Stehle; grandson, Jeff Stehle; two great-granddaughters; brother, Robert (Phyllis) Stehle; sister-in-law, Kathryn Stehle; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Stehle, Jr. and Michael Stehle; three brothers, Philip Stehle, Jr., Daniel Stehle, and Carl Stehle; and a sister, Julia Maurer.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Military graveside services conducted by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial squad will be held Mansfield Memorial Park at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice.
